1) Reorganize the content on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad mobile page
Issues
- Main Photo
- Photos open on new page, taking guest out of their way
- Icon covers photo
- General Information
- No consistency (links are mixed with info)
- Location of ride disconnected from name of the ride.
- Date and time are in the way (guest end up clicking on date when scrolling)
- Photos and text
- Too much scrolling for the guest to find all the available information
- No associations between photos and information
BEFORE
Solutions
- Main Photo
- Images change automatically
- Bring the icon to the bottom of the image and display how many photos there are
- General Information
- Group links and other information separately, grouping the important information the guests are looking for
- Display general information first (Name, Location)
- Bring date and time to the other level (with height, age interest)
- Photos and text
- Show all available information in one place
- Match information about "bumpiness" and "darkness" to the photo of the children
- When the guest clicks on one photo, an animation will make that information open to them and bring the other photos to the bottom
AFTER
AFTER (guest clicked on the first photo)
Process
User research showed the most important information the guests are looking for in a page like this. They want to see the safety information and what the ride is about. One of the interviewees said that the story and meanings are what makes Disney special, so that was an important factor for her.
After analyzing the current structure of the website, I grouped what was important for the guests and created a hierarchy that makes the information more easily available for them.
Testing showed that frequently the guests clicked on the "date and time" button accidentally when scrolling and had to close that page to go back, so I also moved it down to avoid that issue.
2) Surface up more high-level details around the resort
Issues
- Guest has to click on each resort to learn more about it
- What information do the guests want to see?
- More photos (bedrooms, themed areas, lobby)
- Transportation to parks: already displayed
- Reviews and ratings
BEFORE
Solution
- With a collapsible menu, the guest can choose which resorts they want to learn more about.
- Clicking the expand button, will push the other resorts down on the page and display more photos of the resort chosen (with descriptions).
- They can compare multiple resorts without leaving the page
AFTER
Process
After interviewing several people about what informations they look for when comparing resorts, all of them answered that they would like to see more photos, specially of the bedrooms. Most of the interviewees also said that ratings and reviews are important.
I explored two options in depth of how to display that information in an easy way: expanding the information and a popover. I selected the expansion because is allows the guest to see multiple resorts at the same time.
